Apartment Buildings Floors
As you know when you buy a new apartment, the developer provide to you the unit "designer ready" basically bare bones, you need to finish your condo unit putting floors, painting, blinds and final decoration touches.
When you put the floors, by law you need to put soundproofing on top of the concrete slab (floors) before you put any kind of flooring in your unit.
Most of the new building developments don't have drop/acoustical ceilings, and this is a very important thing for you to check with your management office or developer office, because if you don't have them (drop/acoustical ceilings) it is only few soundproofing product that you can use to comply with the building code minimum requirements of sound reduction of IIC 50.

Floors Soundproofing System
the soundproofing of the floors system it is a floor assembly that combines the concrete slab, the soundproofing material (underlayment) and the floor (ceramic tile, stone, laminate, hardwood, engineered wood and vinyl). This system all together needs to give you and IIC 50 minimum to comply with the Building Code.
Slab of concrete:
You need to get a minimum of 50 IIC, it work like this:
Slab of concrete IIC ____ + Soundproofing Δ ____ IIC = 50 IIC
Δ IIC = The amount of sound reduction of the soundproofing product by itself.
Apartments with 6" concrete slab:
So if you have an slab of concrete of 6" (IIC 27) in your apartment you will need a soundproofing product with a minimum Δ 23 IIC to comply with the building code IIC 50.
Slab of concrete 6" IIC 27 + Soundproofing Δ 23 IIC = IIC 50.
You need: QT Sound Insulation 4012 with a Δ IIC 23.
Apartments with 8" concrete slab:
If the slab of concrete in your apartment it is of 8" (IIC 32) you will need a soundproofing product with a minimum Δ 18 IIC to comply with the building code IIC 50.
Slab of concrete 8" IIC 32 + Soundproofing Δ 18 IIC = IIC 50.
You need: QT Sound Insulation 4005 with a Δ IIC 18.
